About the Opportunity

DeLaval has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Trade Compliance & Logistics Coordinator to join their Oceania team in Hamilton, NZ. 

This position is responsible for various aspects of International Trade Compliance and comprehensive shipment procedures, including managing and arranging for transportation, co-ordination with internal and external stakeholders and driving improved performance of third party providers.

You will have a strong understanding of Customs regulations and import processes including a strong understanding of customs valuation, tariff classification, and other aspects of trade compliance

Your daily work will see you work directly with the Business Units regarding import and export requirements. You will answer questions and resolve issues that arise in the daily operations of product movement and ensure proper classification and shipping documents are completed appropriately. You will be highly organised and coordinate scheduled pickups from manufacturers, taking cost/frequency/customer requirements into consideration. You will also co-ordinate the delivery of capital products to our customers.

More specifically, your duties will include:

  • Classify products for import and export using (a) the Harmonized Tariff Schedule
  • Coordinate with transportation vendors for load planning and delivery requirements
  • Manage both inbound and outbound freight costs, and develop and implement freight cost reduction initiatives
  • File freight claims
  • Arrange for storage of product
  • Assist with carrier negotiations, strategic planning, and procedure development, upon request
  • Develop and maintain specific KPIs to better manage and report on performance of the business
  • Report and track carrier/courier performance for on-time deliveries and damages
  • Review and approve all transportation invoices to ensure accuracy and compliance to our contracts with selected carriers/couriers
  • Arrange specialty freight movement as required

 As the main resource for customs issues you will ensure a high level of Customer Service by providing timely responses to enquiries on status of deliveries/pickups

About You

  To be considered, you'll have

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in either Logistics, Supply Chain or similar
  • Relevant experience in International Trade and logistics
  • Detailed understanding of customs laws, requirements and procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • high attention to detail
  • Sound Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • strong working knowledge of Harmonised Tariff System (HTS)
